My dad also took me to one game - it was probably late 1950s. We sat on third base side, which might have been visitors dugout. It was an evening game with St. Louis Cardinals. I'm pretty sure the objective was to see Stan (the man) Musial.

Otherwise, during late 1950s, there were "knot hole"(?) games in which an Edgewood group would organize trips to Forbes Field for kids - probably connected with Little League. We would be seated in right field bleachers among a mob of other kids from around the Pittsburgh district. Little did we know that we were watching a future hall of fame player in right field - number 21.

Guess I was losing interest in baseball about time Maz lifted a home run over the left field wall. I was 14 and in 8th grade and had started taking advantage of "Sunday Pass" trolley riding. There's a rumor that Pirates might have won a couple other world series since then, but people's interests change over the years. Pittsburgh was a good place to grow-up.

> From: fwschneider@comcast.net
> Date: Fri, 28 Jun 2013 12:59:03 -0400
> To: pittsburgh-railways@mailman.dementix.org
> Subject: Re: [PRCo] Mixed Bag Of Old Pittsburgh
>
> New Forbes Field? Well, it appears to be dated 1927 in the photo and another link says the stands were extended along the right field line in 1925, which is consistent with the photo. Notice the higher roof line along the right field (far left in the picture). That fountain is still there today on the south side of Frank Cutlo Drive (who the dickens was he?) Considering we love sports, there are probably more links to Forbes Field than anything else you might want to look up.
>
> I was only there once. I think my father thought he was ignoring my upbringing. Someone must have given him a couple of free tickets and he didn't know what the _______ to do with them so I was taken to a Pirates game about 1948. I was bored to death. But I can honestly say I sat in the stands at Forbes Field about 2nd or 3rd grade. (I might have been happier riding West Penn.) Some of us grow up later than others. Also took me longer to figure out what women are than other guys ….
>
> http://mailman.dementix.org/pipermail/pittsburgh-railways/attachments/20130628/e060b9f0/attachment-0006.jpg
>
> http://www.ballparksofbaseball.com/past/ForbesField.htm
>
> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbes_Field
>
>
> On Jun 28, 2013, at 10:01 AM, John Swindler wrote:
>
> >
> >
> > Is number 6 the "new" Forbes Field???
> >
> >
> >
> > Interesting.
