<DIV><BR></DIV>Like I say, you seldom hear that "Pittsburgh Speak" now. Believe me, I talk<BR>to people everywhere I go and I don't come across it very often. When I<BR>lived here previously it was heard constantly. In fact just a few days ago<BR>I was talking to someone about the lack of Pittsburghese in Pittsburgh<BR>these days. Some people still have a slight "accent" but nothing like it<BR>used to be and the corruption of words is almost gone. Oddly enough this<BR>week in Pittsburgh is "Redd Up Week" as proclaimed by the city government<BR>to get people to clean up their neighborhood streets, yards, etc.<BR>
<DIV><BR></DIV>One thing from the old era I did find, however, is located at the<BR>intersection of Brownsville Road and Willock Avenue. The traffic signals<BR>are all mounted on the posts on the corners of the intersection and cycle<BR>through the Green - Yellow/Green - Red sequence like they used to do. The<BR>posts and signals are painted yellow and black as was always the case. All<BR>the signals at that intersection are on the side, nothing is hanging in the<BR>center. Work is now being done on that part of Brownsville between Marylee<BR>and Willock so those signals may not have long to go.<BR>
<DIV><BR></DIV>Also, last year I posted a comment concerning Brookline and Brookline Blvd<BR>and how, except for the trolleys, it looked the same as it did 40 years<BR>ago. Not so now. They have completed about half of the project which has<BR>seen the street rebuilt from the ground up, the car tracks removed, new<BR>sidewalks, new traffic signals and new LED street lighting. The original<BR>poles which PRCo used to hold up the trolley wire have been taken away and<BR>refinished very nicely. They are being reinstalled on the completed<BR>sections of Brookline Blvd and have old-looking new LED streetlamps hanging<BR>from them. These poles used to be a medium green color, the refinished ones<BR>are shinny black.<BR>
