I would have to drive to the state library in Harrisburg or one of the Carnegie Library branches in Pittsburgh to find what I want going back to the 1920s or 1930s. My colleagues in the state labor market unit would have had that in Pittsburgh except that the unit was dissolved just like mine was and all the paper was tossed in the dumpster. </div><div><br></div><div>I am backed into a corner where I have no idea what is gone except from memory. Yes I know the steel industry is gone. And the railroads that supported it don't have to be there today.</div><div><br></div><div>At any rate, here is the same material rearranged in groups according to when the municipality's populations peaked. And just by grouping them, you can see how the people moved from the city to the inner suburbs, then the next ring of suburbs, and so forth.</div><div><br></div><div>It is intriguing to me that those which are still growing are all either as far from Pittsburgh as we can get or along (or near to) Interstate highways. We seem to want a new house near an expressway and put it as far as possible from the people we don't like. It intrigues me that in every one of those municipalities, the residents are 93.9% to 99% white. </div><div><br></div><div>Those that continued to grow into the 2010 census were largely along the Westmoreland County line (Plum), the Butler County line (Marshall, Pine, Richland, West Deer) or near it (Franklin Park, Hampton, Indiana, Ohio), next to Beaver County (Moon and Findlay) or adjacent to Washington County (again Findlay, North Fayette, South Fayette and Jefferson Hills Borough). I am not sure why Robinson and Kennedy are growing unless it's jobs near the airport. </div><div><br></div><div></div>
