looked at a 1918 and a 1930 map of Kennywood Park trackage. In 1918, the
loop
was set for cars to come from and to the city, not McKeesport. There
were
crossovers in front of the park so my guess is that regular 68 cars
were
augmented by a few double-enders for the short ride between
McKeesport and
the park. By 1930, it would appear that cars from
McKeesport could turn into
the four-track yard opposite the park by using
a track connection at Hoffmann
Blvd (today's name for the road) that was
just past the bridge next to the
park. Double-endered cars could still
turn short in the yard by changing
poles. There was never any loop
trackage for cars running from McKeesport.
Not sure what they did between
1953 and 1958 when there were no Jones cars
but by then, many more people
probably came to the park by automobile and it
didn't matter any more.

George Gula

On 5/8/14 9:49 PM, "Dwight
