they had a plant on the North Side. It made springs--railway car
springs. We were probably one of the last big LCL shippers. Our big
competitor was Henry Miller Spring Co., which was also on the north side of the
river but I think up toward Aspinwall, not in da Burgh.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><BR></DIV>Ever hear of a steel mill on the North Side. Here
is an item about Crucible Steel tearing down its facility on Ridge
Ave. Ridge ran about 4,600 feet from Chateau St. (just west of the
West End Bridge) eastward to Merchant St., which is two blocks short of
Federal St. It is parallel to and one block north of Reedsdale
St., where the new light rail runs. <BR><BR>So where was the
mill? Between Lighthill St and Chartiers St., Ridge on the north and the
Ohio river on the south. That put's it just east of the West End Bridge
and behind the new Three Rivers Casino. And Ridge doesn't go there
today. Route 65 expressway blocks it.<BR><BR> <A
