That is the Best and Only's bridge over West Chestnut Street (and old route 40) as the highway leaves Worshington. I remember standing at the near end of that span about 1954 catching a snap of train 233-73 heading toward Wheeling behind a P1d Pacific. The two trains were combined as far as Wheeling where they split with 73 heading down the Ohio to Moundsville, St. Marys, Parkersburg, Huntington and eventually Kenova. Train 233 went west to Louisville. If my fragile memory works (and Rathke will no doubt correct me), I think both were taken out of the timetables about the winter of 1956-57 … saved the B&O wasting money on new diesels. </div><div><br></div><div>The West Chestnut Street line quit earlier than the other car lines in Washington. I recall going down to Marietta, Ohio to the grandparents on Memorial Day weekend in 1953. Dad stopped for gas at the Sunoco Station on Chestnut Street near the Pennsy crossing and I bailed out with my camera hoping for a picture of a trolley. The gas pump jockey told me that line had already quit. </div><div><br></div><div>If you want to find that spot on Google maps, open Google maps and key in 1208 Atlas St., Washington PA into their search engine block and push enter or the blue block and it will take you as close as you can get to that spot. The stone house on route 40 is gone today; it is the parking lot for a Pizza Hut. </div><div><br></div><div>Not sure how long ago the Google Earth pictures were made … the Exxon station on Chestnut Street was peddling regular gas for $3.87 a gallon. </div><div><br></div><br><div><div>On Dec 26, 2014, at 1:47 PM, Edward H.
