We cordially invite you to attend a special event at the East Troy Railroad
Museum on June 13th and 14th. The Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light
Company Car 846, an electric streetcar will be rededicated to service.
After being built at the St. Louis Car Company in St. Louis, Missouri, Car
846 was transported to the Cold Spring Shops in Milwaukee where it began
operating on the streetcar lines of The Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light
Company in 1920. The car served the city until the end of streetcar service
on Route 10 in 1958. Car 846 after retirement went to the Kentucky Railroad
Museum where it was involved in many floods. Later the car was moved to
Appleton, Wisconsin and went under restoration. The car then moved to East
Troy in 2002. Now with the restoration essentially complete, the car is once
again ready to carry passengers at the East Troy Railroad Museum.
Car 846 is very popular due to its local appeal. As one of only five
remaining streetcars from Milwaukee, and the only actively in passenger
service, it represents Milwaukee's and Southeastern Wisconsin proud traction
heritage.
June 13th and 14th will be a time of great celebration in East Troy, and
your attendance will add to its significance. The hours will be 10am to 5pm
both days. We are planning a dedication at 10:30am Saturday June 13th, after
which the car will be available for rides, pictures and reminiscing. We hope
you will be able to come and participate in this event as we relive a form
of transportation that was used by our parents and grandparents. Watch Car
846 restart its service at Wisconsin's Historic Landmark Railroad.
