Hello everyone,
Itâs John, and Iâm finally back on the lisr after various ISP changes. Uâve been keeping an eye on your posts, though, North Shore and Interurban routes, âfoundâ streetcar tracks, and all.
Iâm probably one of the youngest members. I mean, streetcars are a thing of the past for me. My mom did say she took me on a streetcar once, but I was barely a year old. Even the trackless trolleys were on their last legs when I rode them in the 60âs, but I really wanted to drive one when I grew up (well be know what happened to those plans)
Even though I have no photos, my âphotographic mindâ remembers streetcar trscks on North Water street when they were tearing them out, along with the cobblestones (I even grabbed a couple for historic reasons. This was near Laacke and Joys. Who remembers the large drinking trough for the horses that was still there?
The North Shore station on 6th street had just closed. But I swear I remember seeing aNS car clckety clacking across the sixth street viaduct!
My fascination for trolley buses prompted me to buy THE TRACLESS TROLLEY YEARS-A MILWAUKEE TRANSPORT ERA by Russell Schulz. When I spoke with him with him (thanks to Tom and Tracie) I asked if I coul share stories and photos from the book. He told me to go ahead and share anything I wanted, because thatâs why he wrote it!
Therefore. Iâm happy to say that, every once in awhile, Iâll share a story and/or photos about my dreams to drive a trolley bus!
Iâll attach a photo of two route 22 coaches struggling to get up the hill on Locust street by Riverside High School (my alma mater) during the blizzard of 1947(before my time)
John
