List: TM's company publication Rail & Wire for January 1928, page 278
carries the following announcement:

DINER BEGINS SERVICE .... Our new all-electric two coach diner train
went into regular service on the Milwaukee-Watertown Rapid Transit line
on Jan. 16. The train, which was described in the December issue of
Rail and Wire was built at the Cold Spring Shops.

Complete meals as well as ala carte service are provided on three
westbound and three eastbound trips daily except Sunday. Each trip
connects directly at Watertown with our Madison buses, making the dining
service part of our Milwaukee-Madison operation.

The train is operated according to the following schedule: Leaving
Milwaukee at 7:00, 11:05 am and 4:35 pm, and leaving Watertown
eastbound, 9:13 am, 12:44 pm and 6:32 pm, daily except Sunday.

has a waiter awaiting their choice of an entree.

FOOTNOTE: An 8 x 10 company broadside photograph of the original train
spread across W. McKinley Street on N. 38th Street, the usual place for
file photographs, discloses that this train carried the number 1199, on
both car bodies. Unusual, in that all of the articulated trains
(rebuilt from single bodied streetcars), carried individual numbering on
each car, i.e., 494-495.

With the construction of the second articulated Dining Car train, TM
reverted to dual numbers, the 1199 train became 1198-1199 and the 1929
new addition Dinng Car train became 1196 - 1197.

For the record.... Don L. Leistikow
