To me, practically "everything" in my old neighborhood has changed: no
Fruit Ranch, no Capitol Court, the custard stand a block away that made
its own custard, "phosphates", deep-fried fish, chicken, and ribs, etc.,
yada, yada, yada. Even my parish school--St John de Nepomuc--which was
doubled in size in 1955, was prematurely closed by the Archdiocese for
no apparent reason back when it happened. Eventually, the facts came
out: there were three pedophiles working my old school starting seven
years after I attended--a lay fifth-grade teacher and two parish priests
(http://terrenceberres.com/ise-sex.html). It was rather shocking a few
years ago to discover why a fairly new school building (plus the older
building) was shuttered and eventually sold to the public-school system.

Two questions:
(1) When the interurban started its rapid-transit phase, it started near
35th Street. An older map shows some rail extension heading NE off the
interurban toward 35th. What was that used for?

(2) How many streetcar lines serviced West Junction when the interurban
shut down? Did the West-Allis Wells stop at 70th and Greenfield back
then or did it extend out to West Junction? I never rode the Wells
further west than County Stadium until 1957, about the time it ended.

Thanks for the creek work, BTW. Did Banner Lumber at 35th and Marion
burn down? I have a vague recollection of a lumber yard burning for a
few days, but I forgot which one it was. The railroads were notorious
with their diesel exhausts starting grass fires and such near lumber
yards--assuming that was how many such fires started.
