[milwaukee-electric] extra tracks by Eighth and Hibernia

Now that I see that this list is not dead, I will post my own message...
Looking over a photo of Speedrail, I noticed that there were two tracks
south of the ROW crossing Eighth Street. Were these tracks used to park
equipment?

Also, there was a grainy picture in a Milwaukee Journal article from
1980 that showed the entrance to the ill-fated subway east of Eighth
Street below where those two tracks were at grade. Was that "hole"
filled in at some point?

And yet another question... If Maeder did not run that signal leading to
the Speedrail crash, what different could have happened downtown as a
result? If Speedrail managed to financially limp along for a few extra
years, the downtown expressway would have used Highland for its ROW--the
tentative path chosen for the freeway during the mid to late 1940s. That
might have made the Speedrail ROW still available for use today, instead
of the Marquette Interchange altering all that downtown real estate.
