My answer would be that the words "being forced" much more closely apply to bus ridership than anything to do with rail, the latter by far being the transit method of choice.

A few months ago, I thought I raised the question as to whether or not the
average MCTS bus rider would rather stay on rubber tires for a one seat ride
Downtown rather than being forced onto a circular streetcar line for the
last two miles of his/her trip.
