A Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, John.
I apologize for my delay in replying.
I need to check, but I believe the adult fare during 1969 was a quarter. Transfers were free, but had a time limit. There were "zone fares", which you paid beyond certain locations on some lines. I need to check and see if I have a 1969 transit map, which shows where the zone boundaries were located.
You would pay your base fare and obtain a transfer, if necessary, upon entering a bus. Then you would pay the supplemental zone fare upon exiting after the bus entered an outer zone.
I am cc-ing this to the Milwaukee Electric discussion list to see if somebody can provide definitive answers.
Regards,
K.

Subject: milwaukee bus fares in 1969
Hi there. Any idea how much it would've cost to ride a bus from the near Milwaukee suburbs to a downtown main bus station in 1969? Research question for a novel. Thanks. -jv
