Greetings!
You mention foam as a base for lightweight construction. Check some of
the newsgroups for model railroading; I have seen this discussed there
multiple times. It is totally new to me but some people seem to really
like it.
Note the switch contactors in the overhead just behind 3764 (Bob
Dietrichs website) - these are the old ones I mentioned in another
post. Believe that the 42 line got the new contactor before the
interurban line but both were newer contactors by the mid-50s.
You ask about the railing in the photo of 1240 - is it left over from
the railing near the 'coal pile' in the photo from Ray *interurban*
Latimer!?? I believe there was some kind of drainage ditch in the area
as well that ran under all the tracks here. If you look at the photo of
M450 there is a railing at the end of the walkway for the interurban
stop beyond which is the ditch.
Yes - there was a derail on the 44/48 line inbound. It was after the
passenger stop and adjacent to the other derail. I don't know what the
different aspects meant on the signal but obviously the center red means
the derail is set to -- derail! One light *might* be to show proper
alignment of the derail and the other light *might* be for interlocking
clearance which would show a proceed aspect only if a 44 or 48 inbound
or outbound was not already occupying the block ahead! I asked a
similar question on the list earlier but an answer hasn't been provided
as yet.
I saw an inbound car from Dormont or Mt. Lebanon off the track near the
derail inbound -- all 8 wheels. But it was not because of the derail
because the car was sitting on pavement - must have derailed through the
switch or frog of the admin loop. If the car had gone off the track
because of the derail it would have blocked the outbound 44/48 and this
was not the case!
