Looking back at photos of Pittsburgh PCCs during and prior to World
War
II, it appears that the canvass area of the roof and in most, but not
all cases, also the trolley pole cowling appeared to be painted a darker
color than the later cream treatment. It appears to be a brown or light
charcoal color. Was this deterioration of the painted canvas or
something done intentionally?
