I have information which indicates that the Pittsburgh, Harmony, Butler
and New Castle interurban left Pgh for Butler (round-trip 2 hrs 15 min) every
hour from 5.40 AM to 5.40 PM, then at 8.25, 10.25 and 11.25 PM. Cars also left
Pgh. at 6.10, 7.10 and 9.25 PM but to get to Butler it was necessary to change at
Evans City.
Cars leave Pgh. for New Castle (round-trip 3 hrs) every hour from 6.10 AM
to 7.10 PM, then at 10.25 PM. Cars leaving at 8.25, 10.25, and 11.25 PM
necessitates a transfer at Evans City for New Castle.
Additionally, a common characteristic of interurbans (within city limits
where a rail system already exists) is to run express rather than local.
Thus, with half-hourly interurban service and the probability of running
express, I am not surprized that the 12 Evergreen ran local service.
