I believe it was for the South East Corridor since, as you noted, the South
West is under construction with a date of 7/00 opening. Cars are being
built by Siemens Sacramento. I have photos of 'em. Bill V.

Question, Bill:

What was the vote for???????

Couldn't be for 8.7 mile South West extension from I-25/Broadway to
Littleton. (???) That $ 177 million project has been under construction for
past couple years, and has a scheduled opening date of July 2000. (At $20
million per mile, Denver is building light rail at about 75 percent of the
cost per mile of the proposed $63 million East Busway extension costs!)

Or was this Denver vote for local share for 19.7 mile South East extension
along the I-25 corridor??? Think RTD was looking at about $ 500 million
total for this one (or $100 from state/local sources), but there were local
funding problems. Voters may have turned down a 1997 referendum to increase

the RTD's local sales tax revenue base, causing RTD to rely on a slice of
Colorado motor vehicle taxes for local share of transit construction
projects.

So has Denver revisited the sales tax issue, or was this vote for another
purpose?????

Just curious.

John
