For what its worth,

I remember 47 Carrick via Tunnel as rush hour only in 1960s. The public was
familiar with 53 Carrick name, which was the full-time service but used S.
18th St. and Carson St. When PAT abandoned S. 18th St. trackage (I want to
say late 1960s, but maybe around 1964/65), full-time 53 service was rerouted
through tunnel, thus effectively eliminating separate 47 cars.

Also, under PAT route numbering scheme, Carrick car line would become
51-series route (51C). The number 47 was part of the 46-series routes which
used Saw Mill Run. Thus 46A is Brentwood local bus via Overbrook, and 47L
is a Library limited trolley via Overbrook. Similarly 41C is Cedar Blvd
local bus via West Liberty Ave., and 42S is South Hills limited trolley via
West Liberty corridor.

Harold Geissenheimer would be the expert in this decision.

John
