Greetings!
While yards are only hinted at on the two ERA maps:
1--December 1944
2--June 1949
the *1944 map* does strongly suggest that Palm Garden Loop was in place
and that the east side yard was fairly well developed at this time. The
map does not show the details but definitely gives a very strong hint
that the configuration we knew in the 50s was well established in the
early to mid 40s.
Also, the loop we know around the admin building at Castle Shannon was
built in 1948. A wye was used at this location previously with the
outbound car backing into the yard to turn around. Actually, this was a
major pull-out track for cars to start their run with the option of
heading either north and south but it also doubled as a wye for turning
cars. This had been mentioned before and is more confirmation.
