Greetings!
In the Sept-Oct 1984 issue of ERA *Headlights* which includes "The
Great Circle Tour" article written by Bill, the editor uses a photo from
the Sprague library on page 3 which looks south through the yard from a
point just south of the ladder track junction with the 42-line track.
Three PCCs are evident in the yard:
1- Distant rear so difficult to tell the series.
2- 1100 series car.
3- Way distant, series obviously unknown.
While 2-3 cars are missing off of each of the first three storage
tracks, the rest of the yard is f-i-l-l-e-d with low-floor cars. The
title under the photo says it is "Four decades ago" making this the
early to mid-40s. Obviously, the PCCs are working the lines.
Interestingly, no interurbans are shown in the photo!
At any rate, the yard appears to have the configuration we know from
the 50s e-x-c-e-p-t the outbound 42-line track is open "T"-rail and
not paved! Paving came after the war and maybe as late as 1949; I would
have to check my photo collection very closely to help to determine
this.
Barely discernible on the extreme right of the photo are pedestrians
walking up the 40-line prw!
