Westinghouse PCCs on Route 21

Greetings All,

I have read several sources that indicate General Electric equipped
1600s were the cars of choice on Route 21 during its latter days. The
reason stated is that the controls and braking on this group were better
suited for the extreme grades on the line. I suppose cars from the
1726-1799 group were also used on this line.

I was looking for some pictures of 1400s and 1500s for Roger Dupuis for
a project he's involved in. I came across several nice shots of
Westinghouse equipped car 1502 on Route 21.

Now for my question: Was there anything special or different about the
Westinghouse 1500s that allowed them to be used on Route 21? Or was this
a fluke in car assignments? Ken J.
