Drake derailment photos

A couple of months ago I mentioned an event on the 36-Drake line during
the 1970's when a PCC derailred at Ft. Couch Road. I have located my
slides from that day, and several of them (along with more accurate text)
can be viewed on the Fallen Flags website. From the homepage
(www.dnaco.net/~gelwood) scroll down to "L" and then click on "Light Rail
Systems". You'll see the PAT photos, plus some photos of DC Transit and
the 1929 West Penn Rys. map.

Take a close look at the 1975 photos of PCC 1720. Note that the trolley
pole is on the wire throughout most of the rerailment. The cable that
was used to pull the PCC backwards onto the track is also visible in two
of the photos. (I have other photos which show the truck pulling the
cable, and the gouged "track" that 1720 left on Ft. Couch Road.)

I have uploaded about 1,800 railroad photos, maps, timetables and other
information to this website, and many of them are from Pittsburgh and
Western Pennsylvania. Look around - you'll also find some trolleys on
the railroad pages (e.g., on the Nickel Plate RR page there's a photo of
a flatcar carrying a trolley coach, and on the Canadian National page
there's a photo of a 4-8-4 steaming past a TTC PCC).
