PRCo PCC 1613 -- Musings!

Greetings!

There are 3 pull-outs in the back, Derrick, each measuring 25 X
28 inches, each filled with information front and back. I could x-rockx
these for you but each sheet would probably be in multiple pieces which
you would have to paste together.
The particular item I referred to is on the back of insert "2"
under Pittsburgh. Fred lists the PCCs by electrical equipment and
separates out the following individual cars::::::: 100, 1547, 1600,
1630, 1674, 1675, 1700, 4000. Car 1630 has note 8 attached which reads:
"--Equipped with B-3 trucks (SLC 6305) from car 1648 in 1955." And
"Rebuilt to body style 10 in 1957."

I think the 1957 date for the conversion (to remove the roof
monitor and the fans) is a little early - I have photo #N20854 from
M.D.McCarter which shows 1614 sitting in front of 1630 at Palm Garden;
1630 still has the roof monitor and fans and the date of the photo is
listed as 1960.05.27. I also have photo #N20863 of 1630 OB on Library at
Latimer and the date is listed as 1954.12.23, just before the car
*supposedly* got the B-3 trucks from 1648 after the Homewood fire.

There are a number of mistakes on this list - and I definitely
don't say that in a derogatory tone - with an undertaking this huge,
mistakes are bound to creep in. In the above mentioned listing of PRCo
equipment, Fred lists the 14 and 15 series as *body style 20* which gives
a 24 degree slope for the front windshield. But on the third pullout he
lists the 14s and 15s as having a 12 degree windshield. A windshield of
24 degrees on the 14s and 15s is correct; they were referred to as
*Butterfly Windows* locally - the upper outer windows were angled instead
of square to allow for a small air vent.
