I had stated that 1630 did not have the front vent and the one
picture I looked at it wasn't clear. Checking other photos and 1630 does
have both fore and aft roof vents in addition to the trolley cowl from a
1000-1199 series car.
Car 1657 from Harold A. Smith #PI-0417 of 1657 at Brookline Jct
OB on 1963.05.19 reveals no front roof vent.
Car 1511 pg 60 bottom *Touring Pgh by Trolley* by Harold A. Smith
reveals a missing front vent. The cars sports the *Half-n'-a-Half-n-a*
paint scheme so it was probably removed when repainted. Car still has
PRCo wings. Car 1621 pg 68 of the same book also sports that
*Half-n'-a-Half-n-a* paint scheme and is missing the front vent. This
photo is in PAT days but I'll bet the vent was removed by PRCo during
repainting. Cars 1672 pg 72 NS 1655 PG 73 and possibly 1657 same page
are missing the front vents. These photos are in very early PAT days,
too, but the cars still have the modified PRCo paint scheme with red half
circles and cream dash for the first two cars - "V" front for the last
car. PRCo probably removed these vents as well.
PCC interurban 1619 on pg. 83 (top) in PRCo days is missing the
front roof vent.
Also a photo of 1687 from Harold A. Smith #PI-0183 on 1964.09.14,
just several months after the PAT takeover, shows the car in the
*Half-n'-a-Half-n-a* paint scheme with the front vent missing, probably
removed by PRCo.
You, Cuzin Ken, are remodelling the home right now; how would you
patch a hole in the ceiling? Probably wouldn't be much different with
the PCC. Was it a plywood roof covered with canvas on the PCC? Just
don't cut a hole in the plywood for the vent! More expedient not to cut
a hole for a vent and water leak than to cut one!
