PCC Emergency Braking

Greetings!

A discussion on another list about track brakes / emergency
braking on PCCs brought up the point that a buzzer sounded if the track
brake were activated to warn the operator. Because of rail wear,
operators were discouraged from using the track brakes.

If I remember correctly, a buzzer sounded on all PRCo PCC
air-cars when the brake was depressed enough to activate emergency
braking; the buzzer was not just because the track brakes were activated.
On the all-electric 1700 series, the gong sounded when the brake
was pushed into emergency; there was no buzzer.

And if I remember correctly, the track brake could come into play
even in standard service braking, but this was just a mild application
and not full strength.
