1731 on 21-Fineview

The stretch of track in the photo was not really level - it sloped
downward in a northward direction - from the crest of the hill (Channel
11 studios and the truck garage) in the background toward the camera.
The grade is more apparent if you were stationed at Channel 11 and
looking northbound.
I forgot to mention that if you were stationed in the distance by the
truck garage and looking away from the camera, you'd be looking southward
at the outbound upgrade, and you'd have a great view of downtown
Pittsburgh.
The more I recall these stories of Fineview and look at the photos, I
realize that if there was one trolley line that should have been
preserved, this was it. However, 21-Fineview didn't really go to any
destination (attraction), and the inbound line was on Perrysville Ave.
and Federal St., so maintaining the line would involve a lot more than
just the scenic single track.

PS - For all you John Dameron fans, I found a good photo I took of him
standing on the front steps of 1799, the last car on 6/14-Avalon, at the
Avalon loop around 1:45 AM on 5/1/66. He's wearing a RED sportscoat, so
I'm glad I was using color film.
And, on another photo taken a few minutes later, there's a PAT person
standing at the front of 1799 addressing the very large crowd of people
at the loop. Harold - could that have been you?

For the English majors: I put commas and periods outside my quotation
marks when I think it makes more sense or makes the sentence easier
to read (adapted from Dr. Ed Friedlander, <www.pathguy.com>)
