The PTM Library has recently received a copy of the 1937-38 "Pittsburgh
Railways Company Course in Organization, Equipment and Methods."  This
25-chapter compendium was apparently prepared for managerial or supervisory
personnel, and could well have been a 6-month course in how the company was
run.  Fred and I both have working copies and will be reading them as time
permits; we'll share some of the more interesting stuff.
