You may have seen the ad on page 95 of the summer Classic Trains for a VHS
video by Revelation Video, Box 129, Tallmadge, OH 44278 for $24.00 (Ohio add
tx) post paid.
I assume this is the same video I bought in 1993 from them. It runs 77
minutes with footage mostly by John Stein of 'Akron on fan trips in the early
50's. The PRyCo. footage is by Ron McElrath.
Quality is not up to Steven Speilberg and the dubbed sound from Railroad
Record
disks doesn't match too well. Like squeeling wheels as fans board a standard
car in Washington at a safety zone. But, the West Penn footage is about 2
minutes and shows the barn Connellsville, the rotary snow plow coming out,
then the South Conn. line with a 290 series, and some main line scenes, all
fan trip footage. Iron Bridge is shown as one of the scenes.
Pittsburgh has a quick view of SHJ with all red/cream cars but in PAT days.
Footage is mostly red cars but all taken in PAT days. Mostly Carrick with
1700's and some 1600's.
I didn't watch the whole tape again this evening but it does cross the
country. A lot of scenes are dark, I presume it was 8 mm. Naration with
some music and the sounds from the record dubbed in. The price isn't bad and
it is of scenes we won't see again. There is some Library out the front
shots and a run through of palm garden with red and grey cars in sight. A
good shot of the signal inbound changing sequence as a car passes.
I should have watched it all to see if there was a SF Muni motorman standing
on top of a PCC measuring strain insulators, but I didn't.
