I just acquired a photo of 1706 backing out of the Washington PA station in
1952. My question is that the car number just to the front of the rear doors
appears to be like speed lettering, or 1706. The photo is fuzzy, but not
enough to blur things to the extent it would put the number out of focus.
Did PRCo. experiment with this style of number.

Corgi, the 1:50 scale folks, have planned for 2000 a Twin Cities and
Pittsburgh 1700 car. I expected the Pittsburgh car to be the same one they
have used for all the other models, but it does have a roof ventilator
running the length of the car, but it is at least twice as high as it should
be. Better than not having it. The car is painted in the mod series with
red front, white middle and blue rear as I remember and PAT on the side.
Most of their paint jobs have been fairly accurate. The Pittsburgh car is
due in July and they run aabout $34.00 if you look around. There is a place
in KY called Die Cast Direct, but I don't know the address. Don't make any
mistakes though, these won't hold a candle to Jim Holland's From Russia With
Love 1700's.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that Bruce Young, (216) 429-1018, PO Box 25525
Cleveland, Ohio 44125 has PRCo. and West Penn photos. He doesn't have a
catalog but does store roughly by car series. He has a nice selection of
photos from the early 40's to the mid 60's (no PAT grey that I saw) on fan
trips. A lot from the early 1958 period. I went up to his home and went
through everything and most are on par with Railroad Ave. quality, some
better. Bruce lived in PIttsburgh on Rt. 39 when in high school and knows a
bit about the town. He also has tons of photos on Cleveland and other lines.
If you are interested I can give you some info and photo no. on what I have
or call him any day from about 4:00 to 11:00. He loves to hear from folks
and can talk your ear off. You might tell him you want 20 pictures of 1700's
(for example) and see what you get. His price is $3.00 each for 8 x 10,
which is what RR is now charging. Don't know about postage. If he is a new
source for you, give him a call and talk about what he has.
