Thanks, Derrick, for the JPG conversions. The JPG images downloaded
instantly - it seemed like I could have gone out for lunch - and dinner -
waiting for the TIF files to download.
I especially liked
<http://trolley.dementia.org/woodruff/Woodruff_St_Sta_31+25.jpg> which
can still be related to that intersection today. The old Wabash (P&WV)
railroad overpass resembles modern concrete construction, but the 1930's
automobile dates the photo.
And, you Pittsburgh folks who have gotten used to real estate prices in
Western Pennsylvania should realize that home prices aren't that low in
many other urban areas of the country. The sticker shock hits you when
you move to Chicago or the coasts. My daughter just moved to an
apartment on the north side of Chicago. It is not in the high rent
district, but 1900-era 2-bedroom duplex units (no basements) in that
neighborhood start at $250,000. And, it doesn't get much better as you
go beyond the city limits - suburban homes 50 miles (still commuting
distance for many people) from Chicago start at $150,000. These houses
sell well and appreciate in resale value as the edge of the suburbs moves
outward.
