Car Life

Now I seem to remember reading (perhaps in the "Coast to Coast" book?) some of
the systems that had acquired new PCC streetcars during the 1946-49 period and
bailed out early (perhaps KC, TCRT, Chicago and/or Detroit?) had initially
figured on the cars lasting until about 1970. I can't remember if it was any or
all of the properties I listed, but that falls right into that 20 to 22 year
service life of Pittsburgh's oldest PCC cars and would have fit PAT's initial
plan to retire all remaining streetcars by 1970 (later pushed back until 1975.)
