Volatile Fantasy (or What If You Were Running PAT During the 1960's?)

I'm reading a June 29, 1964 PAT memo titled "CASTLE SHANNON ROUTE - DOUBLE
TRACKING." It contains "estimates for the construction of poles, overhead,
signals and complete construction of track at the above location, using new
100# rail, thermit welded joints, and new ties where necessary. Where
single track now exists, double track will be built except on McKinley Park
Bridge, Reflectorville Bridge and Oak Bridge where gauntlet (sic) tracks
will be constructed. Estimates for the cost of grading and the construction
of retaining walls based on information available, but without making an
extensive survey, are included. These estimates cover a distance of five
(5.0) miles."
The estimate totaled $1,853,800, and the worksheets are attached to one
copy of the memo. This was in the Harley Swift era.

This is what I'm looking for. "Forgotten" facts. Please tell us what
Harley Swift may have had in mind for the system had he been given a
free hand?

Sometimes "rain" washes away the rationalizations that has built up in
our minds over the years. Let it pour! :-) Ken J.
P.S.- Thanks for the correction on the spelling of "volatile." :-)
