Greetings!
In another post, a Sept-23-1953 date was given for pressing the Drake
loop into service.
I have a photo of 1723 inbound at P&LE sporting a Shannon-Drake
destination sign but still sporting the spare trolley pole common to the
Washington and Charleroi interurbans. This spare pole was removed when
official Drake and Library service commenced.
Prior to the wye, cars would run to Canonsburg as trippers. But with
the opening of the wye, it would be possible to make Drake trippers
during the rush hour while regular cars continued on to Washington.
What date was service established to the wye - even as trippers?
Obviously, on 31 August 1953 or after, all cars terminated at the wye!
