44-48 & SHJ Admin Loop Connection*S*

Greetings!

Some time back we were discussing the connections to and from the 44-48
line from the track behind the admin building. At one time, this track
connected to both tracks; in later years it was just the inbound track.
Cliff Scholes photo #PGH-0023 of PCC 1158 inbound on the 44-line shows
the switch to the *outbound* track -- a very l-o-n-g switch! While
the photo is dated 1962.10.12, this date is most likely wrong (I
purchased some slides with this date from Cliff of interurbans which
still had their spare poles [PRCo wasn't t-h-a-t slow, ED!<VBG>] and
the cars in the slide were from the 40s - all of them!!!) And in this
photo, the trees have a full head of leaves so it can't be October -
nothing else in the photo to date it . . . except for the switch!
Don't know if 1158 ever received the full width anticlimber (Dr. Ed
probably has that information at his fingertips !) but it just has the
small anticlimber in this photo. About 99 and 44/100% of the PRCo
photos by Cliff Scholes are 1950 or later, so this photo *might* be 1952
(but definitely not October!) - a good many of the others are of 1952.
The switch lead to the loop under the 44-48-lines is less than 1/2-car
length from this switch!
The switch would be very simple to remove - two short lengths of rail
are needed to make the 44-48 a thru track - one to replace the frog and
one to replace the point on this RR style turnout! Just remove the
other rails!
