A couple of additional thoughts on my recent e-mail:
Last day of East End trolleys, 1/28/67 - I mentioned that I took photos
of 1546 and 1561 at Craft Ave. early in the morning of Jan. 28, 1967.
These did not appear to be stored cars - both had just come out of
service, were completely illuminated, had "Stadium-Forbes Field" signs,
and were positioned between the nearly empty barn and Forbes St.
Lower Hill District in the late 50s - I just recalled how much retail
activity there was in the lower Hill in the late 50s.
There was a busy store called the Hill Company on Fullerton St.; this
store was like today's Service Merchandise. To make it easier to get from
Liberty Ave. to Fullerton St., there was a foot bridge over the PRR
station tracks between the station driveway and the area where the Civic
Arena is today. The bridge crossed the tracks near the entrance to the
PRR tunnel (now PAT light rail) behind the Post Office. This bridge was
in use until the Arena was completed, and was a great place to photograph
PRR trains.
