The question was asked: "Does PTM still use their fleet of workcars to
maintain their line?"
Yes! PRCo M210 (linecar) and M283 (crane) are by far the most used cars
to maintain the track, signal system and overhead. Our volunteer crews are
constantly working to maintain and improve our infrastructure.
PRCo M551 (side dump) and Boston Elevated 3618 (center dump) are used to
spread ballast and we also use M551 to collect the unsightly materials that
sometimes appear in the creek.
Let's not forget Philadelphia Suburban 4 (snowsweeper) that has been
used to clear the line of that white stuff that can create havoc with
railways. (Sorry, it was really steamy there on Sunday and the thought of
snow helps to cool the senses)
With a track extension in progress, these cars will surely get a
workout. If you want to see them operate, come to our Trolleys and Trains
Event on July 29 and 30. We have plans to have a work car parade and
demonstration.
