Thanks, John for pointing out that

is a Brighton Road location.
For the memories department:
Between Penn and Liberty Avenues in the Strip district, there was
trackage to and fro - on I think 23rd and 24th Streets. One track led
off of Penn onto Liberty Avenue, and the other went from Liberty onto
Penn. Anyway, the ONLY time I saw just one of these tracks being used
was when we all had to get off of a stopped 88 Frankstown (by fire hoses
going across the tracks) and get on the 88 waiting directly behind us.
The now empty 88 turned onto 23rd(?) and headed back to East Liberty via
Liberty Avenue.
Some years later, I noticed that the street the 88 had turned on to head
outbound that day, was marked ONE WAY, directing traffic from Liberty to
Penn, not the other way around. And further up Liberty I noticed that
the inbound track which carried 87 Ardmore, switched onto the outbound
Liberty Avenue track, just beyond 32nd street. The 87 route, of course,
turned onto 32nd street, then onto Penn to continue its inbound journey,
not onto the outbound Liberty track.
Does anyone know what this intricate trackwork was typically used for?
That is, this unusual inbound-onto-outbound track and the tracks on the
streets connecting Penn & Liberty?
I know that at one time, long ago, Penn & Liberty were double-tracked,
so perhaps this trackage was installed just to use for emergency
diversions?
