They were technically "Ligonier Stone," after the location of the quarry of
origin. The color of stone originating (exclusively) in this facility
(conveniently owned by the then-mayor's partner) was specified by city
ordinance to be used in all paving projects.

I always heard Pittsburgh's street paving blocks called "Belgian blocks".
