Greetings!

I mentioned a while back that the speeded--up low--floor cars had
larger brke cylinders and a lower accident rate. I found my source:::
*PCC From Coast to Coast* page 161, very last para-giraffe and I quote::

	"In 1930 the company upgraded 29 of its 618 low--floor, single--end
motor cars by rewinding the motors to achieve 56 horsepower and a
40--mph maximum speed. The reworked cars also received larger brake
cylinders, self--lapping brake valves, and stop lights. By 1931 there
were 129 high--speed cars, and eventually the number reached 424. But,
despite their increased speed and lower accident rates compared to the
low--speed versions, rattan seats were clearly no match for the mohair
in the private automobile."
