jThere was a roller skating rink in Filbert I believe. I am awaiting a
drawing of the entire New Salem to Orient area to complement Ed's fine
descriptions from a man who grew up in the area. Between Ed (as in Lybarger)
and this guy I know there was a trestle over a railroad spur and creek (?)
that dropped down to highway grade
(coming from New Salem towards Brownsville). Somewhere along there was this
rink, and when I tried a "guesstimate" drawing to send off to Norfolk to see
how close I was, he replied I wasn't quite right. Others have accused me of
not being quite right. He said he would correct it and return it but I have
not heard from him and need to ring his bell. This is the man who put me on
to the book "Patches of History". He is not a railfan and therefore hard to
keep his interest.

I seem to remember some destination signs out of Uniontown marked "Race Track"
or something. Am I dreaming? Isn't there a Shady Grove Park near Uniontown
and was it served by the WP?

Maybe Ed can give us some more detail on the Filbert, New Salem, Buffington
area
before we take the tour. I know it would become clear if we were there.
