Bob,
I didn't know anyone personally who worked at Heppenstall's, but
remember that huge red neon sign spelling out Heppenstall and
illuminating Allegheny river across from Millvale. The PLW catalogs
acquired by your Uncle and signed by Heppenstall himself are pieces of
memorabelia to be treasured especially if your other rail interests lie
with steam locomotives.
It's good to know the car hop and movie drive-ins of the 50's have found
a rebirh in your area. They represent fixtures from the best of times.
Today's younger generation has no idea how boredom-free those days were.
It was a far different reality.
The Illinois Ry Museum appears to be a key place to visit when one is
anywhere near the area. What a haven. Or, should that be "heaven"?! Are
there traction remnants there as well?
Bob
