I can't even imagine the resulting mess if the Smithfield Street Bridge had to be
closed for any length of time between 1969 and 1984. Where would passengers have to
transfer to buses for downtown connections? At Carson Street? At SHJ? Where would
PAT have gotten extra buses? Sheesh! Talk about putting all your eggs in one
