Pending receipt, Harold, of current information from someone in the
Pittsburgh area, in past the speed limit was 18 miles per hour.

The citation is Transportation Department Order No. 2065, issued 29 March
1948:

"EFFECTIVE AT ONCE:"

"When inbound between the south and north portals of the Mt. Washington
Tunnel, trainmen must operate their cars at a speed that does not exceed
eighteen (18) miles per hour."

"To avoid exceeding this speed limit, cars must consume, in motion, not less
then two and one fourth (2 1/4) minutes between these locations."

There is no speed restriction listed for the outbound direction.

John
