Subject: Re: PRC 1600 Possibly Being A Baltimore Car

The Board of Directors of The Baltimore Transit Company authorized an order for
one sample post war all-electric car from The St.Louis Car Company in September
of 1944. I quote from "The Best Way To Go - The History Of The Baltimore
Transit Company" by Fr. Kevin A. Mueller, "As late as September 5, 1944,
Bancroft Hill (BTC's President) must have had streetcars in mind for the post
war rehabilitation of the system because he requested and received permission
from the board of directors to purchase one PCC car from the St. Louis Car
Company. The BTC wanted to acquire the SLCC PCC to try out a new braking
system that had been developed on the car." (The order for the 100 Pullman
cars had been authorized earlier on May 16, 1944.) The St. Louis car was never
delivered and suspect has it that the car was substantially built and then
offered to PRC at a special deal when the now NCL led BTC cancelled the order.
This parallels the Pullman cars that were on their way towards construction, and
then offered at special prices to other Companies.
