Pittsburgh Railways had essentially three route classifications in the
1950s:
1.  Streetcar lines
2.  Feeder Bus Routes
3.  Through Bus Routes

In the Dormont/Mt.Lebanon area before, during, and for 
sometime after WW2 there were 3 feeder bus lines: INGLEWOOD, 
JEFFERSON, and SUNSET.

Inglewood and Jefferson terminated at Clearview Loop and operated
to neighborhoods south thereof, never leaving Mt.Lebanon.  

Sunset (if I remember correctly -- Jim Holland, where are you?) 
terminated at the intersection of West Liberty Ave. and Peermont 
Ave (1/2 block from the Dormont Wye) and served the Sunset Hills 
are to the east thereof, never leaving Mt.Lebanon.  During WW2, 
the fares on these three lines were (outbound) an outbound or 
special transfer + 2 cents.  Inbound (if memory serves correctly) 
the fare was a car check plus 2 cents for an inbound transfer or 
12 cents cash for a special transfer.  Local fare (i.e., no 
streetcar riding involved) was 5 cents.  

There was also one through bus route (MT.LEBANON) which ran from
downtown Pgh, through the Liberty Tubes, out West Liberty Ave and 
Washington Road to it's terminus at Ordale Blvd, about a mile beyond 
Clearview Loop.  During WW2 the fare was a flat 15 cents - no 
transfers or car checks were issued or accepted.  However, there 
may have been some special incentives such as multi-ride tickets, 
monthly passes, etc., but I don't recall that detail.  Frankly, 
I very rarely rode that bus -- I couldn't afford the 15 cents!

Reference:  Streetcar fare at that time was one car check (including 
either an inbound or outbound transfer if it was requested).  If a 
Special transfer was requested, the fare was a flat 10 cents.
BTW, 3 car checks sold for 25 cents. If you didn't have a car check, 
you paid a dime.
