Greetings!
Duquesne Light Trolleycar Operation
"OUR AGANDONED LINES experts, Benjamin and Scanlon, have
'discovered' the remains of an interesting former electric operation on
Brunots Island. Duquesne Light once operated two slightly modified
former Pittsburgh Railways double-end differential dump cars in its
cinder hauling operations at the island's huge steam generating plant.
The cars, with stubby cabs, had offset trolley poles to facilitate the
loading of the cinders. Although electric operations ceased over three
years ago, the two cars are still on the property, one rusting away
under the boilers, the other being ravaged by the elements out on the
dump. The two former PRCo cars were probably taken to the island
operation years ago when The Philadelphia Company was the holding parent
of Duquesne Light and Pittsburgh Railways, among others. The island's
electric operations also included a narrow-gauge line, also abandoned
several years ago. The plant still has two H.K.Porter fireless engines
on the property; only one is in operation. We welcome additional
information on these operations."
Twould be nice to know the numbers!--Jim
