To get this hospital discussion on topic: were there any hospitals in
the city of Pittsburgh that were NOT on a trolley line?
Some hospitals were within a block of the trolley - e.g., St. John's
Hospital was between route 18 Woods Run and routes 13/14/15. Divine
Providence (formerly Presbyterian) Hospital was across the park from
North Avenue. South Side Hospital on Jane St. was probably right on the
old horse car line.
The hospital-trolley relationship is probably quite logical since
trolley lines were built where people lived, worked and shopped, and in
pre-ambulance/paramedic days, hospitals were built in easily accessible
locations.
