This kept the DEMON--stration loop simple -- a single return wire
could be strung which was totally devoid of any special work. A frog
had to be cut into the hot wire on 7th at Smithfield and also on
Smithfield at 7th as a trailing frog. Otherwise, everything else was in
place.
Had the TC crossed this intersection, a double track wye from 7th onto
Grant to get to 6th, then four crossings for each TC wire, in addition
to proper insulators in the ground wire, would have to be installed
through the intersection at 7th. An awful lot of work for a simple
DEMON--stration!!
The TC had to gingerly negotiate the frog in the turn from Liberty onto
Grant; the Liberty Ave trolleycars still had to go straight thru and
unless PRCo electrified this trolley-wire frog, it was hit or miss as to
whether the TC pole would follow the right way.
Same for the frog on Smithfield at Liberty.
Don't know routing or activity along Grant between Liberty and 7th -
this was non-revenue trackage in the 1950s. IF this was the case
during the 1936--demo, then a directional frog could be installed on
Grant for the turn onto 7th to insure that the TC trolley pole would
follow.
