Good Morning!!
The discussion about the Bethel Church trestle showed differences in
Car Stops in both name and location on various maps. Obviously, as time
moves on, population density increases and stops are added.
The 1963 Roy G. Benedict map shows stops familiar to all of us.
The Linear--Map I mentioned shows distances between sidings (apparently
measured to the center of the siding) or distances between key points on
double track, the capacity of the sidings, the times that cars are due
at the sidings in each direction (outbound of Wash.-Jct. only),
additions or removal of trackage and date, Car Stops, location of
way-side phones, etc. The track diagram for both interurbans starts at
Boggs and goes to Roscoe on the Charleroi line and to Tylerdale on the
Washington line. It shows the addition of Simmons and Drake Loops in
1953 as well as two additional sidings on Overbrook in early 1954.
Because of photo data, I know that Mesta Stop existed in 1950 but I
don't know when it was added because the Linear--Map does not show this
stop. Apparently, the map was not used to keep stops current. So I am
going to assign an arbitrary date of *1940* to the Linear--Map.
The first column below shows Car Stops as they are listed on the
1940--Linear--Map; the second column shows name changes and//or
additions on the 1963 Roy G. Benedict map. A double Asterisk (**)
indicates stops with wayside phones; while the PCC interurbans were
equipped with on-board phones from 1948 (1600s) to 1953, the older
equipment did not have these phones.
