The Carrick Car House site is on the northeast side of Brownville Rd.,
about 300 ft. northwest of the intersection with Nobles Lane. Foodland
is the main store at the shopping center, and I believe there's a
Duquesne Light Co. substation near the curb. From photos I've seen, the
present parking lot is in the area where there was open storage of
trolleys. My wife grew up a couple of blocks from this site, and her
family still shops at the Foodland.
I'm familiar with the Carrick Eagles location, and you're correct,
there's a severe drop-off behind this building, and it's not too far
from Brownsville Road. I once bumped my forehead on the ceiling above
the staircase at the Carrick Eagles - the stairs are steep, and the
ceiling is low - probably to align with the drop-off in the hillside
(we've all seen Pittsburgh houses that are two stories on the front
side, and five stories on the rear side).
